The journey of benevolence and giving started when the late founders Basil and Alice Sahhar established Jeel al Amal in 1972 in Bethany. Caring for the most needy children in providing a safe and loving environment and empowering them with education was all what Alice Sahhar was striving for during the last 56 years of her life. Years passed by producing peaceful generations of academics over the last forty years of doctors, lawyers, diplomats, health care workers and policy makers.
Jeel al Amal continues following the footsteps of the founders who left a great impact on the lives of the children and everybody at Jeel al Amal.... Dedication and love for the work and children unites us all in carrying out the Humanitarian mission that was started by Alice Sahhar. Despite all difficulties we will continue serving the needy children fortified with that strong will and determination implanted in us by the founders.

Music and dance festival december 2011
At the opening of the House of Hope and Culture, a new music theatre in Bethany that was sponsored by the Japanese government, the children danced marvelously.
Najwa Sahhar visibly enjoyed the performance.
Not only Children without Borders was involved in this music festival, but also ‘Vision’, in Arabic: ‘Roy’a’, a local association for music. Jeel al Amal’s choir sang very spontaneously.
