A new generation is growing up
“Once Muslims, Jews and Christians lived in our country as neighbours.” Jeel al Amal keeps this memory alive in Palestinian children. The Sahhar Family are Christian Palestinians; the children in the home and at school are Muslims. In Jeel al Amal they will grow up to be Muslims with an open mind for people from different cultures and religions. They are the “Generation of Hope: Jeel al Amal”.
Ongoing search for funds and donors
Jeel al Amal is a non-profit organization, and because the co-ed school is private, it is not subsidized by the Palestinian Authority. Jeel al Amal depends on donations from private persons and international organizations. Through continuous hard work for over 35 years it has succeeded in attracting these donations. Since 2009 Jeel al Amal has been exploring new sources of fundraising: an open day at the school and fundraising meals during Christian and Muslim feasts. Through these initiatives Jeel al Amal becomes also better known in the Palestinian community.
Contact with the Palestinian Authority
The boys’ home and the school of Jeel al Amal have been officially recognised by the Palestinian Authority. During a visit to Jeel al Amal in 2010 the Minister of Social Affairs, Mrs Majida El Masri, extended her thanks for everything Jeel al Amal does to secure a better future for the children.
